So my XPS 8700 came with 2 4gb RAM sticks, installed in slots 1 and 2 for a total of 8gb memory. I installed 2 8gb sticks in slots 3 and 4 yesterday. My system shows 24gb installed, but only 16gb usable. So I tried installing the 8gb sticks in slots 1 and 2, and the 4gb sticks in slots 3 and 4. Same result. Shouldn't the entire 24gb be usable. Memory/mobo issue? Won't boot with with 4 sticks, will boot ... So, I've tried all combinations of sticks. Any two sticks will work, in any two slots.
